The Summer Project

ImageLib_13_2270.jpg

The aim of the Summer Project is to match:

a penultimate/2nd year student with specific skills and aptitudes to a commercial company with a business or technical project in mind, who hasn’t the time or resources to carry it out.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Undergraduates are matched according to your project requirements. These projects typically take from 2 – 12 weeks over the summer (July and August) but could also be held during term time on a part time basis. The students are tasked with writing a report on their project which will be judged by a panel.

To be eligible the company must have the space and resources available for the student to complete the project and the company premises will be based in Leicestershire.

WHAT WILL IT COST?

You will pay a ‘Training Allowance’ (£195 per week in 2008) to DMU, along with a management fee (depending on the length of project), DMU will then pay the student direct. The training allowance is exempt from both Tax and National Insurance contributions.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN AFTER APPLICATION?

Once you have registered, you will be contacted by a member of the Knowledge Transfer Team who will discuss your business needs in more detail. If a feasible project is agreed for a student to undertake, your requirements will be matched with the skills of the students in our database and a shortlist will be provided for your consideration.

Once you have selected the student most appropriate for your needs, contracts will be drawn up and you will be invoiced by DMU for the training allowance. Mid-way through the project we will provide a review; this is to ensure the students are provided with any support they may require to complete their project.
