One of the best ways you can promote your business is by using PR. But what is PR and how can you as a creative business owner go about it? To help you learn the basics, CIN has brought in a couple of practicing PR experts and enlisted the help of Robin Johnson, business editor of the Derby Evening Telegraph. This 3 hour workshop will help you: - Learn how to make your business attractive to the media
- Get practical advice on how to put together your own PR campaign
- Get advice on how to write a press release
- Understand how to approach journalists – what to say and what not to say
- Find out from a practising journalist what you need to do to hit the headlines
- Learn about PR agencies and how they can help you.

Places are limited. Course leaders The session will be lead by Beth Richmond, a PR consultant with considerable experience in both public and private sectors. In her role at East Midlands Development Agency, Beth helped establish the in–house PR function and was the force behind improving the quality and quantity of its media exposure. Now working freelance, Beth provides PR support for several public and private sector clients. A trained journalist with experience in broadcast and print journalism, Jenny Goodwin moved into PR five years ago. She has been instrumental in developing many creative PR campaigns to promote organisations both regionally and nationally. At Skills for Justice in Sheffield, a sector skills council, she helped set up an in-house PR and marketing function and event-managed top level political events. Before choosing to work freelance, Jenny and Beth were both directors at a Nottingham PR agency. After more than a decade working at the Derby Evening Telegraph, Robin Johnson is one of the most experienced members of staff working at the newspaper. Two years ago, Robin was appointed as business reporter at the paper and was quickly promoted to business editor. He writes a daily business page for the paper and contributes to, and oversees, the content of the Business Weekly supplement which appears in the paper every Tuesday.
