World Cup referee and business man Graham Poll will join The University of Northampton and its event partner Business Link on September 25, 2008 at a special Business Breakfast for Directors and Senior Managers from companies in the area.
In a fast changing world, businesses are increasingly reliant on the skills and resourcefulness of their managers – at all levels. Customers, suppliers, the competitive international environment, and internal pressures all add to the demands placed on a company’s managers, along with the ‘traditional’ needs to manage within budgets, to meet performance standards, and to motivate and direct people. This event will focus on the leadership standards required to be really effective in this environment.
Graham Poll’s uplifting presentation will explore leadership and management within organisations and be illustrated by examples of his career both on and off the field. Graham is sure to inspire those with responsibility for nurturing and delivering great leadership, team building and management skills.
Graham’s considerable achievements include refereeing the last FA Cup Final at the original Wembley Stadium in 2000 and being the first person ever to referee 300 Premier League matches. He hit the headlines during the 2006 World Cup tournament for issuing one player with three yellow cards in a single game.
In addition, Professor Simon Denny will examine a commonly expressed view that British company managers lack training and development skills. He will review the evidence and the suggestion that we are lagging further and further behind our international competitors. Simon will also identify how some UK companies at least are world class in the way they develop their leaders and managers.
Around 70 company guests are expected to enjoy extensive networking opportunities over a cooked breakfast.
The event will be held from 7:30-9:30am at Sunley Management Centre, Boughton Green Road, Northampton and is the latest in a series of very high quality business events organised by the University of Northampton.
