New on De Montfort University (DMU) campus is the 24 hour outdoor automated DVD rental machine situated outside the Graduate Bar.

Quikee Ltd is the company behind the idea. Started by graduates from the University, Quikee has flourished with its innovative business idea. The two Directors, Fraser Walker and Gregg Elliott, formed the company following the discovery of similar entertainment facilities in Europe.  With their success in winning the 2005 Business Venture Competition young entrepreneur award, Quikee Ltd was offered the opportunity of legal advice, business guidance and also a base of operation at De Montfort Innovation Centre.

With such support available as EMIN, where a registered member can ask any question to a collective group of experienced business-builders, and CEO, who enabled Quikee to focus on core aspects critical for success, the rest was up to the directors when securing revenue and placement to provide for the construct.

Different to conventional methods of movie rental, the DMU campus’ very own movie store in a box is unique to the UK in providing external 24 hour access to its members and boasting Tardis like qualities.  Members can browse all titles and book those available inside the kiosk by logging onto www.quikee-uk.guyaonline.com and entering their member number and pass code in the space provided.

Offering top movie titles from 99p, membership works on a mobile top-up like system where clients recharge their card directly at the machine with credit/debit card or cash and then use this credit when renting titles. Non-members can directly access the system by using credit or debit card, but do not receive added services such as online reservation, event notification and points for promotion.

The movie and game archive is accessed through a touch screen monitor, clients are guided by easy on screen instructions and are prompted when to collect their selected titles.  Boxes are returned to the same slot they are picked up from, immediately ready for another person to obtain.
